How was the Bible written, and does it matter whether we understand that process? Alan Fisher breaks down the difference between three often-confused terms — revelation (God speaking to a prophet), inspiration (the prophet writing it down), and illumination (the Holy Spirit helping us understand it) — and shows why mixing them up can shake a person's confidence in Scripture entirely.

Alan Fisher compares three views of how the Bible was inspired — word-for-word dictation, thought inspiration, and a more skeptical "encounter" view — and uses a side-by-side look at the four Gospels to show why differences between writers are complementary, not contradictory, much like four photographs of the same car taken from different angles. He also traces the practical ways biblical writers worked, from Luke's careful research to secretaries like Baruch and Tertius, closing with William Miller's own testimony of finding, through careful study, that the Bible truly is "a system of revealed truths."
