Grade inflation has become a significant issue at Harvard and other elite American universities, where the average GPA has steadily risen over the past few decades, making top grades increasingly common. This trend also is occuring throughout American higher education, where professors and institutions deal with pressures to maintain student satisfaction, secure funding, and enhance post-graduate outcomes. As a result, grades may no longer accurately reflect academic performance or rigor, blurring distinctions between exceptional and average work.
