Alyssa Smith believed she would receive a 90-day sentence in jail and probation for the death of her 6-month-old son, Royal Bates. Royal was attacked and killed by a pit bull mix in April 2024. Nearly a year later, Smith and Royal's father, Blake Bates, were charged in connection with his death. Now both have pleaded guilty and the judge slapped Smith which a much longer sentence after her sister told the judge about her lack of care and remorse when it came to her children.
