Biblical talks Encouraging Word for the Week I am Rachel Tolliver,1 John 1:7 says: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
When we live according to God’s teachings, it's not about strictly following every rule. Dr. Harry Ironside once misunderstood this, thinking God's forgiveness depended on perfect obedience. Later, he realized it's about living in God's light, not just following rules. The key is being in God’s presence and letting His word expose our sins. We might think we're living right, but be in darkness.
Fellowship with God isn’t validated by our lips; it’s validated by our walk. Praising God and shouting “amen” have their place. But intimacy with God must be demonstrated through action, not merely through vocabulary. We have fellowship with the Lord and fellow believers when we walk in the light as he…is in the light. This doesn’t mean you must live without sinning. We are called to walk in the light.
John emphasizes that continual cleansing from sin comes through Jesus' blood. If you're a believer living in sin, you've lost your close relationship with God, not your salvation. God treats you like a disobedient child and disciplines you accordingly. Trying to lower God to human standards is futile.
Only as we live fully exposed to the truth of God is the ongoing cleansing work of the blood of Christ activated to reveal, cleanse, and empower us to address the sin that has been exposed. Then fellowship with God is maintained and expanded. For more encouraging, words please go to biblicaltalks.com or listen to biblical talks podcast on your favorite media.
