This Mandarin episode explores the meaning of 卷 (juǎn) in two contexts: school and work. As the Chinese society increasingly forces its people into various rat races from cradle to grave, I wish we can all live a life of our own of love, intention and enjoyment.
- 补课/补习班 bǔ kè/bǔ xí bān: cram school, after-school tutoring
- 努力程度 nǔ lì chéng dù: degree of effort (how hard you work)
- 被别人落在后面: left behind by other people
- 内卷(same as 卷) nèi juǎn: forced into the rat race
- 成绩or分数 chéng jì/fēn shù: exam results; grades
- 考入kǎo rù: enter (a school) after passing a competitive exam
- 家庭负担 jiā tíng fù dān: family burden
- 取缔 qǔ dì: to ban, prohibit, crack down
- 不断地 bù duàn de: continuously, constantly
- 保证 bǎo zhèng: guarantee
- 竞争 jìng zhēng: compete, competition
- 结果 jié guǒ: result. outcome
