Supernatural: Clip Show (8x22) | Recap & Lore

Season 8 Episode 22 Published 1 year ago
Description

Supernatural Season 8, Episode 22, Clip Show recap 🎞️ A secret dungeon, a severed hand with a mind of its own, and Crowley going after everyone the boys have ever saved on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast.

The third trial is “cure a demon,” and Metatron didn’t leave instructions. So Sam and Dean dig into the Men of Letters archives and find old film of a priest who thought he could save demons with his own purified blood. Meanwhile, Dean is still not speaking to Cas, Metatron has big plans of his own, and Crowley has decided to make things personal.

Episode Highlights:

  • Tommy Collins from Wendigo is back and packing a blowtorch, and blood splooge #71 is the goriest moment of the episode
  • “Sorry’s not gonna cut it this time, cupcake”
  • A secret dungeon behind a rotating shelf, with the prettiest devil’s trap ever (Dean: “Finally!”)
  • Movie night: Cas is the only one with popcorn, and a 1950s exorcism goes very wrong
  • Father Thompson wanted to wash away the taint (Berly’s joke didn’t land, and she’s keeping it anyway)
  • Cas assembles a convenience store apology basket: jerky, beer, a busty magazine, and the elusive pie
  • “We have needle, we have thread, we’ve seen Young Frankenstein”
  • A severed hand that crawls with a mind of its own, and Alaina Huffman nails it
  • Metatron recruits Cas over brunch, and a waitress compliments his coat
  • Crowley’s “extensive research team” turns out to be reading the Carver Edlund books, and Sarah Blake from Provenance is back

LA thought Cas’s convenience store apology was adorable. Berly loved Abaddon’s hand scene, and both hosts loved seeing faces from the early seasons, even if Crowley’s new game left them emotionally wrecked. Berly has questions, though. If you cure a demon, what happens to the human whose body it was using? The gore: Tommy’s head, a very charred body, and a whole lot of stitches.

In the lore segment, LA covers Abaddon from GotQuestions.org. In Revelation 9:11, Abaddon (Hebrew for “place of destruction”) is also called Apollyon (Greek for “the destroyer”), king of a horde of demonic locusts that pour out of a smoking abyss when the fifth angel sounds his trumpet. Scripture seems to separate Abaddon from Satan and treat her as one of his destroying underlings. Apollyon even battles the hero in John Bunyan’s The Pilgrim’s Progress. The article ends on a real mood-lifter, and Berly tells her own locust story.

“I’ve had that hangover. Jaeger, man.” – Dean
