St. Thomas’ men’s program opened up its new barn by jumping out to a 2-0 lead on a pair of shorthanded goals against No. 14 Providence, but the Friars tied things up with a pair in the third to earn a 2-2 tie. The wild women’s series coupled with the men’s series against Providence may have not given the hosts the desired outcomes, but man, they were some fun games. No. 14 Providence won the weekend picking up a 7-4 win on Saturday night, rallying from a 4-1 deficit to score the games last six goals and leave St. Paul with a victory. Alex Gaffney scored his fifth of the season for the Tommies, who fell to 2-4-1. St. Thomas will have a home-and-home to open its final CCHA season with Minnesota State.
