As of late, Portland, Oregon has become a focal point of news again as Federal Police stand off against Antifa. The solutions that are unfolding and the rhetoric in the information cycle is binary... each side standing against each other with violence and hate as the driver. Yet, in 2012 Portland Police demonstrated another way when faced with the Occupy Portland protest. Instead of taking a heavy hand, they used influence operations to build trust, transform behavior and to forge respect and peace in the city. This is my account based on my observations from 2012.
