Season 2 Episode 26
In this episode of Our Voices, Our Future, we welcome Dr. Grace Gilbert, a PGY-3 Orthopaedic Surgery resident in the Philadelphia area. Dr. Gilbert began her career as an operating room nurse before earning her MD from St. George’s University in 2022. She is passionate about orthopaedic education, health policy, and advocacy, and shares her work widely through her growing social media presence (@gilbert.md.rn), where she blends medicine, storytelling, and accessible public health education.
During this episode we talk about Dr. Gilbert’s journey into medicine, her experiences and challenges in residency, and how medical training impacts mental health. We explore the unique challenges women in medicine face, the role of mentorship and institutional resources, and how open conversations can help reduce stigma. Dr. Gilbert also offers thoughtful advice for medical students and residents navigating the pressures of training, and shares how she hopes to carry forward lessons about mental health and advocacy into her future career.
