Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist and close ally of President Donald Trump who played an influential role in rallying young Republican voters, was shot and killed at one of his trademark events at a college in Utah on Wednesday.

A spokesperson for Utah Valley University said the shot came from a building about 200 meters away.

FBI Director Kash Patel announced that a person, who was taken into custody in relation to Charlie Kirk's shooting, has been released.

"The subject in custody has been released after an interrogation by law enforcement. Our investigation continues and we will continue to release information in interest of transparency," he said in a post on X.
