Story Transcript:
Et: Kalle istus Tallinna politseijaoskonna ooteruumis.
En: Kalle sat in the waiting room of the Tallinna police station.
En: That day, it was an especially colorful autumn outside.
En: Raindrops fell, soaking the windows, and a gust of wind rustled through the tree leaves.
En: The station itself was cold and formal, full of silver decorations and bright lights.
En: Evelin, a young and energetic police officer, finally called Kalle over.
Et: „Palun istu,“ ütles ta lahkelt.
En: "Please, sit," she said kindly.
Et: Kalle istus ja hingas sügavalt sisse.
En: Kalle sat down and took a deep breath.
Et: Ta pidi Evelinile rääkima Kumu kunstimuuseumist kadunud maalist.
En: He had to tell Evelin about the painting missing from the Kumu art museum.
En: Kalle felt like his whole world weighed on his shoulders.
Et: „Maal, mida me taastama pidime, varastati,“ alustas Kalle murelikult.
En: "The painting we were supposed to restore has been stolen," Kalle began worriedly.
Et: „See oli minu vastutusel.
En: "It was under my responsibility.
Et: Mu reputatsioon on kaalul.
En: My reputation is at stake."
Et: “Evelin kirjutas kiirelt üles kõik detailid.
En: Evelin quickly wrote down all the details.
En: Kalle knew deep down that his old friends from the art world's underground might be involved.
En: Mihkel, Kalle's old friend, had certainly heard something.
En: The police station seemed even more desolate to Kalle, as he wrestled with whether to tell the truth or find a solution on his own.
En: He knew that talking to the police about his past might cast suspicion on him.
En: However, he couldn't let his friends down either.
Et: Järgmine päev leidis Kalle end kohtumas Mihkliga vaiksel tänaval.
En: The next day found Kalle meeting with Mihkel on a quiet street.
Et: Sokutatud vihjetega, said nad kokku Kalamajas, kohas, kus tuul rebis lahtisi kastaneid puudelt.
En: Through subtle hints, they met up in Kalamaja, a place where the wind tore loose chestnuts from the trees.
Et: „Kalle,“ ütles Mihkel, silmad kavalalt pilkudemängus, „kuulsin, et sul on mure.
En: "Kalle," said Mihkel, eyes playing a sly game of glances, "I heard you have a problem."
Et: “Kalle seisis seal, süda peksmas.
En: Kalle stood there, heart pounding.
Et: „Mihkel, ma pean teadma, mida sina sellest tead.
En: "Mihkel, I need to know what you know about it.
Et: See maal peab tagasi jõudma.
En: That painting must come back."
Et: “Mihkel vaatas ringi.
En: Mihkel
