Description
Good morning, Mesa. Here's your crime and public safety update for the week.

Mesa police continue to search for several missing persons in our community. Christopher Skerel, a 50-year-old man, was last seen leaving his home near Power and McDowell Roads on October 10th wearing a black shirt, black shorts, and white shoes. He's known to wear a brown Bass Pro Shop ball cap. Dakota Corona, age 23, was last seen near 90th Street and Balsam Avenue on October 8th. Corona was only supposed to be gone for a short time but didn't return. Anyone with information on either case should contact Mesa Police at 480-644-2211.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office reports that Brandon Hersch, age 33, walked away from the John Volken Academy near Val Vista Drive and Hunt Highway in Gilbert on October 9th. He was wearing a bright yellow-green construction shirt, blue jeans and work boots. Contact MCSO at 602-876-1011 with any information.

In other news across the Valley, Phoenix police responded to a shooting near 83rd Avenue and Indian School Road on Saturday evening. Officers arrived to find a man and woman arguing near an apartment complex. The man was allegedly holding a knife to the woman's throat and failed to drop the weapon when ordered. Officers discharged their weapons and the man died at the scene. The incident remains under investigation.

Weekend storms brought significant flooding to Mesa, with multiple homes near Ellsworth and Broadway Roads sustaining extensive damage early Sunday morning. At least four residences, possibly more, were affected when floodwaters poured through yards and into homes around 3 a.m. The storms also impacted other areas of the Valley, with a man and his truck swept away in floodwaters near Goodyear. Search efforts continue in that case.

Traffic enforcement remains active throughout the city. Officers have been monitoring several high-traffic corridors for violations, particularly in the Broadway and Southern Avenue corridors where multiple incidents have been reported in recent weeks.

Residents should remain vigilant during the ongoing monsoon season and avoid flooded roadways. If you witness criminal activity or have information about any of these cases, Mesa Police Department can be reached at their non-emergency line at 480-644-2211. For emergencies, always dial 911.
