Season 16 Episode 39
A Faith That Heals
“Then he said to him, "Get up and go on your way; your faith has made you well." -Luke 17:19
What was it about the faith of this Samaritan foreigner that allowed him to be healed?
First, he never gave up on himself or the idea that he could live whole. His condition had marginalized him. There’s a good chance he was living among foreigners because he was no longer welcome at home or he had no home to go back to.
It’s easy to become resigned to one’s fate. It’s easy to seek distraction, diversion, and comfort. It’s harder to keep looking out, to keep reaching out, to keep trying when all you’ve known was failure and disappointment.
Second, he was a person who didn’t let prejudice stop him. Neither the prejudices of the people surrounding him nor his own stopped him from reaching out to a teacher who might not reach back because of his race. He didn’t let his own bitterness at the discrimination he had previously faced block his blessing.
Third, as mentioned yesterday, he was faithful to the process. He was willing to do what had been asked of him. How many of us miss out because we are unwilling to follow through?
Lastly, he practiced gratitude. He was the only one to come back and give thanks for what God had done. He had the kind of faith that not only allowed him to be made whole but also to pay it forward.
