We were delighted to host Dr Briana De Miranda on the topic of "How the environment affects Parkinson's Disease and what you can do about it."
Sadly as Parkinson's diagnosis worldwide grows, more attention is focused on how our lifestyles and behaviour affects our environment and how that impacts the progression of this disease/ set of ever growing symptoms that manifests itself differently in each PwP.
Briana De Miranda, Ph.D., is a Neurotoxicologist and Associate Professor of Neurology in the Killion Center for Neurodegeneration at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her research focuses on environmental risks for neurodegenerative diseases, integrating expertise in toxicology, pharmacology, and neuroscience. Her interdisciplinary research is aimed at understanding how neurodegeneration is caused by environmental exposures, and finding ways to treat or prevent neurologic disorders caused by toxic risk factors.
This great presentation highlights some of the potential dangers and more importantly what we as individual PwP can perhaps do about it on a daily basis.
