Confession: Living Life in the Light - 1 John 1:8-2:2 - Brent Van Sickle - Formation Sunday
Description
Does the thought of telling someone about your sins make you anxious? Confessing our wrongdoing can feel vulnerable and scary, whether we are confessing to God or to others. In this text, John explains that we are all sinners, but that our gracious and merciful God made a way for us to be cleansed of that sin--Jesus! In this teaching, we learn how confession allows us to be in relationship with God, and how it allows our relationship with God to flourish. We also learn some practical tips for engaging in confession with those around us.
1 John 1:8-2:2
If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.
