It was the surprise of a lifetime. Back in 2022, a group of Chicago high schools on the South and West Side announced that every student – and their parents – could go to college for free. The initiative was called Hope Chicago. And three years later, it is helping to answer the question of what happens when money is no longer a barrier to education beyond high school.
