Volkswagen is developing in-house battery technology through its subsidiary PowerCo, constructing cell factories in Germany, Spain, and Canada to secure supply chains for electric vehicles. The company is introducing a unified cell format for use in most of its electric vehicles by 2030 to streamline production and reduce costs. Volkswagen is partnering with QuantumScape to advance solid-state battery technology, achieving test results of 95 percent capacity retention after 1,000 charging cycles. The company is expanding its charging infrastructure to 850,000 points in Europe and developing comprehensive charging ecosystems, including home and public solutions, as well as bidirectional charging and vehicle-to-grid integration. Volkswagen’s subsidiary Elli is building stationary energy storage systems to support energy supply and demand.
