Yesterday's tallies were impressive - 47 trips brought in 4,523 rockfish and 2,275 sand dabs across local waters. The rockfish bite is definitely on fire right now, especially in deeper water around structure.
**Tides and Timing**
Today we're looking at a 2:05 AM low tide that already passed, followed by our next high tide around 8:23 AM in Long Beach. The afternoon brings another low around 2:05 PM, with evening high tide hitting around 8:04 PM at Paradise Cove. Tidal coefficients are running low at 27-36, meaning subtle water movement - perfect for targeting finicky fish.
Sunrise hit at 6:47 AM with sunset coming at 6:36 PM, giving us nearly 12 hours of fishing time.
**What's Biting**
Marina del Rey Sportfishing boats have been crushing it on sculpin, rockfish, whitefish, and sheephead. The Betty-O recently brought 46 anglers back with limits, while Spitfire scored yellowtail and lingcod for their 15-person crew.
Redondo Beach Sportfishing confirms we're in prime deep rockcode season. Bass action at local lakes shows fish tight to cover and structure - rockpiles and weed edges are producing quality bites.
**Tackle Recommendations**
For rockfish, go with dropper loop rigs using size 2-4 hooks and 2-4 ounce sinkers. Bait with cut sardine, squid strips, or anchovies. Slow-pitch jigs in blue and silver are deadly on yellowtail.
For bass, stick with weedless soft plastics in natural or dark colors. Early morning topwater can work, but most fish are coming on finesse presentations.
**Hot Spots**
Hit the deeper rock piles off Redondo Beach for rockfish limits. The artificial reefs near Marina del Rey are holding good numbers of sculpin and whitefish. For structure bass, work the rocky points around Paradise Cove.
