STRONG IN LOVE & STRONG IN HONOR
OUR FIRST MISSION: "TO HONOR GOD"
(Matthew 22:36-40 NIV)
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” (37) Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ (38) This is the first and greatest commandment. (39) And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ (40) All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
(Romans 12:9-10 NIV)
" Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. (10) Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves."
To love someone is often expressed by showing honor.
“Honor your father and mother”
(Matthew 15:4 NIV)
“love your neighbor as yourself”
(Matthew 22:39)
LOVE MOTIVATES HONOR, AND HONOR EXPRESSES LOVE
LOVE IS THE ATTITUDE, HONOR IS THE RESPONSE
JESUS' PARABLE OF HONOR AND DISHONOR
(Matthew 22:1-3 NIV)
"Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying: (2) “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son. (3) He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come."
(Matthew 22:4-5 NIV)
"Then he sent some more servants and said, ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.’ (5) “But they paid no attention and went off—one to his field, another to his business."
(Matthew 22:8-10 NIV)
"Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come. (9) So go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.’ (10) So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, the bad as well as the good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests."
(Mathew 22:11-14 NIV)
“But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. (12) He asked, ‘How did you get in here without wedding clothes, friend?’ The man was speechless. (13) “Then the king told the attendants, ‘Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ (14) “For many are invited, but few are chosen.”
(Revelation 4:11 NIV) “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”
