How To Live Faithfully In An Unfaithful World
“But as for you, person of God, shun all this (the love of money); pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, gentleness.” - from 1 Timothy 6:11
How do we follow do we follow the way of Jesus? How do we live faithfully in an unfaithful world? These are the questions 1 Timothy wrestles with.
Writing in the tradition of Paul, the author coaches us to be very intentional in the things we pursue, in the things we make our passion and purpose.
Nearly all of us need money. But we must never fall in love with it. We cannot allow it to ever become the most important thing in our lives.
Instead we focus on:
Righteousness- promoting economic and social justice, individual and collective wellbeing.
Godliness: nurturing a sense of awe, wonder, appreciation and reverence in our everyday lives.
Faith- trusting our footsteps to the pathway shown by Jesus and the prophets
Love- for God, ourselves, and our neighbors as ourselves, in our actions, words, and intentions.
Endurance- never yielding, never relenting, never giving up.
Gentleness- We refuse to let the world make us hard.
