Season 16 Episode 24
Who Are The People Outside Our Walls?
“And at his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who longed to satisfy his hunger with what fell from the rich man's table; even the dogs would come and lick his sores.” -Luke 16:20-21
We all have walls. We all have boundaries. We all have gates. Physically, mentally, emotionally, financially, we all have people who are close to us, who we care about. We have people we allow to become close to us. No problem so far.
Now what about the people outside our walls? Who are not friends, family, neighbors, who are not of the same nationality, ethnicity, religion or non-religion- what about them?
There’s nothing in the story to suggest that the rich man did anything to hurt or harm Lazarus. He didn’t have any particular hatred towards or grudge against Lazarus. He just didn’t care about Lazarus at all. That was the problem.
Who are the people outside our walls? Most of them are doing ok. But some aren’t. Our challenge is to see them, be moved with compassion, and help them in whatever way we can, even if it’s just a prayer.
