The Arrest Of El-Mencho's Brother (9/16/25)
Antonio Oseguera Cervantes, better known as “Tony Montana,” was arrested by the Mexican army in late 2022 outside Guadalajara. Authorities accused him of handling logistics, weapons procurement, and money laundering for the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), the powerful organization led by his brother, Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera. His capture was framed as a significant blow to the cartel’s leadership structure, and in 2025 he was extradited to the United States along with other high-ranking figures.
Another of El Mencho’s brothers, Abraham Oseguera — known as “Don Rodo” — was arrested in April 2024 in Jalisco during a military operation. Officials said he also played a major operational role in the cartel, controlling regional activities and reinforcing CJNG’s influence. However, his detention was short-lived, and his release later that same month stirred controversy, raising questions about judicial weakness and the cartel’s deep reach inside Mexico’s institutions.
