Matt Berninger (The National) - "Being with the audience brought me out of a serious depression"

Description

Matt Berninger's excellent second solo album Get Sunk follows a slow exit from a serious depression where he couldn't get out of bed. Written on baseballs, deconstructed bedposts and anything else he could write lyrics on, the National singer writes songs like he's painting a picture. Once a graphic designer during the dot-com bubble in New York, he was going to formative gigs by The Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio and The Walkmen. We hear about the profound influence Guided by Voices and Pavement had on his style, and how he has good ideas 51% of the time. Get Sunk is out now. Filmed at The Social, London.
