Summary: This episode highlights the history and roots of the carceral system, as well as its far-reaching impacts on the health of women and children today. During this episode, we gain insight from special guests Dr. Jennifer James—a qualitative researcher, a Black Feminist scholar, and an assistant professor in the Institute for Health and Aging, the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences, and the Bioethics program at the University of California San Francisco—and Dr. Nia Heard-Garris—a pediatrician and researcher in the Department of Pediatrics at Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University and in the Division of Academic General Pediatrics and Mary Ann & J. Milburn Smith Child Health Research, Outreach, and Advocacy Center at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.
