Description

It seems that God's people have always been tempted to put their hopes in politics and political leaders. In Ezekiel's day, they were having a difficult time listening to God because they trusted that their leader, a "son of David", must be God's chosen. Instead, God was going to take away the crown until one appeared who was not only a son of David, but the Son of God.

For Reflection:

The people had trouble believing Ezekiel partly because they thought they knew what God had to say. Their king was God's chosen, wasn't he?

- In what ways is politics sometimes like a religion for some, then and now?

- Political leaders often use religion to sway people to do or to excuse ungodly things. How was Jesus different from and better than the leaders we typically follow (cf. Jeremiah 22:13-17)?
