Enrique "Boxer" Enriquez And The Mexican Mafia (9/6/25)

Rene “Boxer” Enriquez (born July 7, 1962, in Artesia, California) was once one of the most feared members of the Mexican Mafia, or La Eme. Raised in a violent environment, he joined the Artesia 13 street gang and quickly rose in rank, eventually being inducted into the Mexican Mafia while in prison. As a made member, Enriquez carried out vicious assaults and murders, both inside and outside prison walls. Notably, he orchestrated the killing of fellow member David Gallegos and participated in a brutal stabbing of Salvador “Mon” Buenrostro, a high-ranking member, in a jail interview room. His reign of violence and leadership cemented his reputation as a ruthless enforcer and strategist for the gang.

In 2003, Enriquez shocked law enforcement and gang circles by defecting from La Eme and becoming a government informant. He provided extensive testimony against the Mexican Mafia, lectured law enforcement agencies, and even served as an expert witness on organized crime. Despite multiple parole recommendations, California governors repeatedly blocked his release, citing public safety concerns. However, in July 2022, Enriquez was finally granted parole after decades behind bars, marking the fall of a notorious gangster who turned into one of the most high-profile defectors in U.S. organized crime history.
