In this episode of Curry Café, hosts Ray Gary and Rick McNamer review the Wild Rivers Film Festival with guests Dan Springen, Sue Wright, and Bev Juday. They explore the festival’s founding during the COVID-19 pandemic, its evolution, and the unique challenges of early projects like A Small Town Nutcracker Story. The discussion highlights the festival’s focus on independent films, filmmaker opportunities through FilmFreeway, and the vital role film festivals play in gaining distribution. Emphasis is on community engagement, including youth workshops and the Founders Circle for supporters. The festival, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, also plans to expand filmmaking workshops for adults, building local talent and infrastructure to support the growing film industry in Brookings.
We encourage anyone with differing views to participate in future Curry Café discussions. If you would like to join the panel, email contact@kciw.org or call 541-661-4098.
