Daily Devo | There Can Be Only One (David - Day 21, 2 Samuel 19:1-7)

Published 7 months ago
Description

The great advisor Ahithopel had wisely declared that Absalom's violent rebellion could be ended with the death of just one man. As it turned out, it was Absalom's death that ended the war. Overcome with grief, King David ignores the needs of the people who had risked their lives to protect David. Thankfully, there was someone who could speak the truth that David needed to hear in that moment. Do we have such people, and would we listen?

For Reflection:

David needed to remember not only his own needs but the powerful needs of others as well. Thankfully, he was willing to listen to Joab.

- Recall a time when you were divided like David. Perhaps you had conflicting roles, feelings, or desires. Was there someone who was able to speak the truth that you needed to hear? What happened?

- Are there people who are able to speak difficult truths into your life today? If so, thank them. If not, what step might you take towards those kinds of relationships?
