They created constant pressure on UCLA's new quarterback, Nico Iamaleava, finishing with four sacks and an interception. The Bruins were held to only 84 rushing yards and struggled to convert on third downs, going just 2 for 11. Utah's defensive coordinator, Morgan Scalley, had his unit playing at a high level, and their ability to stop UCLA's drives and force quick punts was a major factor in the lopsided final score.
Overall, the game was a statement win for Utah, as they controlled the tempo and dictated the terms of the game from start to finish, leaving no doubt about their superiority in the season opener.
