We unpack the timeline, the forensics, and the investigation that ultimately identified Michael Whyte, who was later sentenced to life in prison without parole.
🕯️ Victim & scene: Darlene was found on March 17, 1987 in a parking lot off South Academy Blvd. in Colorado Springs; the cause of death was strangulation.
🧬 The break: Investigators used DNA and genealogy techniques to link Whyte to the crime, solving the cold case in 2019 and leading to a 2021 conviction and sentence.
