The 2025 college football season officially kicked off with a packed schedule on August 30, and the new-look Big 12 conference was a major part of the action.

New conference member Utah, under coach Kyle Whittingham, began their campaign with a powerful statement, defeating UCLA 43-10 in Pasadena. The Utes' defense looked sharp, holding the Bruins' offense in check for much of the game, while their own offense, led by a balanced attack on the ground and through the air, consistently moved the ball. This road win against a familiar Pac-12 rival marks a significant first step for Utah in the new conference landscape.

Another new Big 12 addition, BYU, had an explosive start to their season, routing Portland State 69-0. The Cougars' offense was unstoppable from the opening whistle, and their defense was equally impressive, pitching a shutout. This dominant performance provides a great deal of momentum for BYU as they navigate their new conference schedule.

In Lubbock, Texas Tech’s high-powered offense was on full display in a 67-7 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Red Raiders scored early and often, putting the game out of reach by halftime and allowing their depth to get valuable game experience. The team's ability to put up such a large number of points so early in the season bodes well for their offensive identity moving forward.

Meanwhile, Kansas State had a closer call, but still managed to come away with a 38-35 win against North Dakota. The Wildcats were tested by their opponent, but made key plays when it mattered most to secure the victory. Arizona State also started the season on the right foot with a 38-19 win over Northern Arizona. Their defense was solid, forcing turnovers and creating pressure, which helped their offense establish a comfortable lead. This slate of games shows a mix of dominant performances and hard-fought victories for the Big 12, setting the stage for an exciting season.
