Missouri’s governor has appointed former House Speaker and former U.S.
Attorney Catherine Hanaway as Missouri’s next attorney general, effective September 8. Hanaway, who is from the St. Louis suburb of Warson Woods, is the first female attorney general in state history. Hanaway served three terms in the Missouri House from 1999-2004 and was Missouri’s first female House Speaker. She tells Capitol reporters that her top priority is fighting crime. Hanaway joined host Jennifer Bukowsky live this morning on 939 the Eagle's "Jennifer Bukowsky show" and says consumer protection and elder abuse will also be key areas of focus. Hanaway also has a message for employees at the Missouri attorney general's office: she says the work you do is valuable and you are valuable. She doesn't want the employees there to seek other jobs:
