Why Entrepreneurs Make Bad Decisions with Cary Jack

Episode 588

Ever feel like you’re drowning in information but starving for wisdom? You’ve got endless tabs open, podcasts playing, books piling up—and yet when it comes time to make that big decision, your brain feels like scrambled eggs.

In this episode of The Happy Hustle Podcast, I share the number one reason entrepreneurs make bad decisions and how you can stop it. I’m talking about decision fatigue, information overload, and the chaos that comes from running on autopilot without creating space for clarity. I also share my simple but powerful 3-Day Clarity Quest framework, a process that’s helped me (and many others) slow down, reset, and make better decisions that lead to more income, impact, and alignment.

Here’s the truth: your brain is a gold mine, but you can’t dig out the treasure if it’s buried under junk. Studies show entrepreneurs consume 34 gigabytes of info daily. The average person makes 35,000 decisions a day. And decision fatigue alone can decrease your brain’s efficiency by 40%. No wonder so many people are stuck in hustle mode, making poor choices.

But here’s the kicker: clarity doesn’t come from more hustling—it comes from space. That’s why I retreat into the Montana backcountry with no cell service, no screens, and no distractions. Just nature, stillness, and a journal. That’s where I developed the Clarity Quest framework, and it’s what I want to share with you today.

Here are some of the big takeaways:

Clarity comes from stillness, not from grinding harder. Your best ideas live in the space between distractions.

Day 1 is about detox and declutter. Shut off the noise. Journal out every thought. Delete the top three distractions holding you back.

Day 2 is nature immersion and stillness. Spend hours outside. Hike, sit by water, meditate. Let your mind breathe and reset.

Day 3 is harvest and action mapping. Review your insights. Create a simple, time-blocked game plan. And this is crucial: attach consequences to your commitments. Because consequences create commitment.

Confusion costs cash. Clarity creates cash flow. When you’re clear, your productivity and decision-making power skyrocket.

I’m not saying you have to run off to Montana and poop in the woods to make better choices (though, hey, I recommend it). You can adapt this framework wherever you are. The key is creating intentional space, giving your brain a reset, and approaching life and business decisions with clarity—not chaos.

If you’ve been overwhelmed, second-guessing, or stuck on autopilot, this episode will be a game-changer. Do the 3-Day Clarity Quest, and you’ll start making decisions faster, better, and more aligned with the life you actually want to create.
