• Edison Podcast Metrics released the top US podcasts for Q4/2024. The “podcast election”’s effect was visible, as Theo Von’s show rose three spots to #5, and Pod Save America rose to #10; conservative talk shows have also done well. Talk Tuah with Hailey Welch debuted at #11: her last show was in mid December focusing on “how to avoid getting cancelled”, just days before her crypto coin crashed in value, and she cancelled herself.
• Alphabet, the parent company of Google and YouTube, released its Q4/24 results. The CEO Sundar Pichai said: “YouTube continues to be the leader in streaming watchtime and podcasts” - which many say is the first time podcasts have been mentioned in Google’s financial results. YouTube ads grew 13% to $10.4bn for the quarter (which included the US election).
