Once again, the fate of the Champions League places may centre around the outcome of the Manchester City investigation, which is still yet to reach a conclusion. The Premier League issued more than 100 charges against City in February 2023 related to alleged breaches of its financial rules and with allegedly failing to co-operate with the subsequent investigation, and referred the matter to an independent commission. However, while the charges have risen to 130 transgressions, City’s highly lawyers have still managed to draw out the case, which is still ultimately expected to result in a points deduction— albeit not as significant as what was anticipated at the start of the proceedings.
