Grandpa Bill's Sunshine Prescription
Published 8 months, 2 weeks ago
Description
- Sunrise Stroll: Start your day with a gentle walk as the sun is coming up. The light is less intense in the early morning, making it a perfect time to get some exposure without much risk. Just 10-15 minutes is a great start. This also helps regulate your body's natural sleep-wake cycle.
- Midday Moment: The sun is strongest between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., which is when your body produces the most vitamin D. For fair skin, you only need about 10-15 minutes of direct sun exposure on your arms, legs, or back. You don't need to be in a bathing suit, just roll up your sleeves and shorts. Once that time is up, seek shade or cover up.
- Sunset Wind-Down: Just like the sunrise, the sunset offers a beautiful, gentle light. An evening walk is another excellent opportunity to get some sun while enjoying the end of the day. This is more about mental wellness and a bit of extra light exposure rather than a primary source of vitamin D, but it's great for overall well-being.
- Listen to Your Skin: If your skin starts to turn pink, that's your body's signal that you've had enough. Get out of the sun immediately. The goal is to build up a bit of a natural tolerance without ever burning.
