Season 15 Episode 22
60 Seconds of Hope: Let Us Burn With Holy Fire
“I have come to cast fire upon the earth, and how I wish it were already ablaze!” - Luke 12:49
Elie Wiesel once said, “The opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference… The opposite of faith is not heresy, it’s indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it’s indifference.”
We are called to live with a holy fire. We are called to burn with a passion for justice and righteous. The holy fires of compassion burning within us must warm the world around us during the coldest nights of despair, heartbreak, and hopelessness. However much of the world we can warm, let us warm.
When we see pain and suffering, injustice and exploitation, there is a part of us that wants to look away, that wants to shut down, that wants to protect ourselves from the pain. There’s a part of us that just wants to mind our own business. But the light of the fire burning within and among us shows us that the suffering of our neighbor is our business.
Indifference leads to death. Let us burn with a holy fire. How we wish the world were already ablaze.
I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.
