Why Does God Not Just Push Me Into His Plan?

God promises in Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
If God knows the pans He has for us, why doesn't He just push us into His plans.. or how do we know that we are in God's will?
