Chia seeds may be tiny, but they pack an impressive amount of nutrition into every serving. Once an important food crop in Central America, these small black or white seeds have become a popular addition to smoothies, oatmeal, yogurt and puddings. Chia seeds are especially known for their high fiber content and plant-based omega-3 fatty acids. They also provide protein and important minerals such as calcium and phosphorus.
