August 4, 1942...A labor force shortage prompted the United States government to ask for help from Mexican workers to meet demand initiating the Bracero Progam. This program starting only a few years after the forced deportation of 2 million people of Mexican descent, many US citizens, during the decade long Mexican Repatriation which ended in 1939.
