As I counsel and coach women, I often observe how their nervous systems have been conditioned to anticipate loss and hurt as a means of self-protection. They are not being negative. It’s a survival mechanism rooted in past experiences. For many, the familiar sting of pain, betrayal, abuse, rape, or abandonment has become a way of life, which trained their brain to feel like peace is suspicious, almost like a setup for the inevitable hammer of hurt to fall.
