Supernatural: Hunteri Heroici (8x08) | Recap & Lore

Season 8 Episode 8 Published 1 year, 2 months ago
Description

Supernatural Season 8, Episode 8, Hunteri Heroici recap 🧨 Supernatural meets Looney Tunes: hearts beat out of chests, anvils drop, and Cas wants to be a hunter, on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast.

Cas has turned off angel radio and wants to be the boys’ “third wheel,” because a third wheel adds stability. His first case is a doozy. People in Oklahoma City are dying by cartoon physics, and a burglar called Black Hole keeps leaving painted holes behind. All the clues lead to a retirement home and a face from the boys’ childhood.

Episode Highlights:

  • A cartoon heart beats right out of a man’s chest, and blood splooge #64 is extremely chunky
  • “What’s the word, Cass?” “It’s an abbreviation of my name.”
  • Cas wants to ride shotgun, and Sam shoves him into the back seat like a little brother
  • Bad cop Cas slams the table, and Dean tells him he was bad at everything
  • Cas’s theory: the Road Runner is divinity, and the coyote is humanity forever chasing it
  • A security guard flattened by an anvil, and a burglar the cops call Black Hole
  • Sheila insists Cas is Charles, her third husband, and he just goes with it
  • Fred Jones (Mike Farrell) gave both boys their first beer, before they hit double digits
  • A cartoonishly giant birthday cake, and the first-ever cake splooge
  • Bang flags, a frying pan, and Dean’s face imprinted on cookware

The hosts loved the cutaway gags that cut off right before the cuss words. LA thought it was cute once the concept clicked, and she loved Cas’s lines and Sheila. Berly adored Mike Farrell's performance, which made her cry, but she wishes the book-to-the-head scene had a few cartoon birdies. The gore award goes to the opening splooge, with the anvil aftermath close behind. Plus, Berly now ships Sam and Detective Glass, and she has a theory about why Sam was gone so long.

In the lore segment, the hosts revisit the telekinesis lore from Nightmare. Then Berly covers Nina Kulagina, a Soviet Red Army tank veteran turned housewife whose Cold War films seemed to show her moving objects with her mind. In tests, she supposedly separated egg yolks from whites in water, picked a marked matchstick out of a pile under a glass dome, and slowed a frog’s heart until it stopped. Storms threw off her abilities, and skeptic Martin Gardner called her a charlatan.
