The phrase “What fires together, wires together” is a foundational concept in neuroscience, often attributed to Canadian psychologist Donald Hebb. It’s a simplified way of explaining Hebbian learning, which describes how brain cells (neurons) strengthen their connections through repeated activity.

  • “Fires together” means neurons that activate at the same time.
  • “Wires together” means those neurons build stronger connections.

Every time you choose a healthy action  walking, stretching, choosing water over soda — you’re firing the right circuits. The more you repeat it, the more your brain wires those habits in.

You can rewire your mind by choosing what you want to fire. Discipline isn’t just about control  it’s about building the wiring for the life you want.
