2024 October 01 - Porphyrion: The Longest Known Black Hole Jet

Published 1 year, 5 months ago
Description

In today's image, we see what is known as Porphyrion which is the longest known jet from a black hole, stretching 23 million light years from end to end. This is larger than the distances to many galaxies, which shows how jets like these may affect galactic neighbors and not just the galaxy itself.
