Speaking with reporters in Ottawa, Prime Minister Mark Carney announces that Canada intends to recognize the state of Palestine at the UN General Assembly in September 2025 based on certain conditions being met by the Palestinian Authority.
The news conference comes following a virtual meeting of the federal cabinet, which was focused on the state of trade negotiations with the United States and the situation in the Middle East. Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand is also in attendance at this event.
