Published 8 months, 4 weeks ago
Description
A drive-by shooting near the intersection of Orange and Butler avenues resulted in one man being injured on the evening of July 18. The victim was transported by a family member to Community Regional Medical Center with an upper body gunshot wound. Fresno police reviewed surveillance footage and identified the suspect as Jose Salcido, a convicted felon. He was located and detained on July 23 in a parking lot where a loaded firearm was recovered. Following additional searches and evidence collection, Salcido was booked into Fresno County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder and several weapons violations. The firearm used in the incident has not been recovered. The case remains open as investigators search for additional evidence. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Natanael Morales at (559) 287-6570 or submit tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP.
In southwest Fresno just before midnight on July 24, police initiated a search for three suspects—two men and one woman—alleged to have committed kidnapping, attempted armed robbery, and carjacking. According to Fresno police, the suspects entered a man’s home, demanded money at gunpoint, and then drove him in his own vehicle to an ATM. The victim escaped by jumping out of the vehicle and called authorities, after which the suspects fled with his car. Air support spotted the stolen vehicle near Thorne and El Dorado, but the suspects left the car and ran off on foot. Police are still looking for the three individuals and ask anyone with information to come forward. The victim was not physically harmed.
Fresno County Sheriff’s Office reports that a coach at Hoover High School was arrested on July 25 in connection with possession of child sexual abuse material, following an investigation by the Central California Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Detectives did not release further details about the investigation or whether additional suspects are being sought. The case is ongoing.
In Kingsburg, Fresno County Sheriff’s detectives arrested 38-year-old Luis Rodriguez, who has been booked into Fresno County Jail on a charge of murder. Detectives identified the victim as part of their ongoing investigation. Rodriguez’s bail is set; the sheriff’s office has not released further details about the incident.
No additional information on notable criminal activity such as robberies, burglaries, or assaults has been released by the Fresno Police Department or Fresno County Sheriff’s Office for this reporting period.
This week, one pattern of note involves drive-by shootings and violent home-invasion incidents. Police are emphasizing public assistance in locating suspects from home-invasion and carjacking cases, and they continue to seek tips related to ongoing investigations.
