Ovidio Guzmán López, son of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, pleaded guilty in a Chicago court. This decision, made after two years in prison in the US, includes an agreement to cooperate with authorities, testify against former allies, and protect his family, who have already been relocated to the United States. His capture in January 2023 marked the end of a cycle that began with the failed “Culiacanazo” operation in 2019. Although Ovidio suffers from depression, he was willing to come forward with everything he knows. His testimony could change the course of the fight against drug trafficking and mark the beginning of the end of the empire founded by his father.
