RED SOX POSTCAST: An Extra-Inning Win on the Road; That's a 1st for the '25 Sox

The Red Sox (55-49) finished up their 6-game road trip out of the all-star break with a 9-8, 11-inning victory over the Phillies Wednesday night at Citizens Bank Park.  The Sox finished 2-4 on their trip and had to win the finale in Chicago on Sunday and the finale in Philly Wednesday night to avoid series sweeps. Carlos Narvaez broke a 7-7 tie with a 2-run Home Run in the top of the 11th.  Brennan Bernardino got the final out in the 11th inning to close the door on the Phillies.  It's the 1st win in extra-innings (1-7) on the road for the Red Sox.

Going with Gio!: Lucas Giolito and the Red Sox trailed 3-0 3 hitters into Wednesday night's game. Kyle Schwarber hit a 2-run Home Run and Bryce Harper followed with a solo Home Run.  Nick Castellanos hit a solo Home Run in the 3rd inning to make it 4-0. Bryson Stott hit the 4th Home Run of the night off Giolito in the 4th and that made it 5-0.  Giolito gave up 5 earned runs over his 4 innings of work. He walked 1 and struck out 2 and took a no-decision with the Sox coming back to take the lead in the Top of the 5th. Giolito has worked 9.1 innings and allowed 9 earned runs in his 2 outings post all-star break.

Sox at the Dish: For the 2nd straight night, the Red Sox didn't manage a single base runner over the 1st 3 innings. Jesus Luzardo struck out 5 and threw 30 total pitches in retiring the 1st 9 hitters of the game. Rob Refsnyder led off the 4th with a walk to become the Red Sox 1st base runner. The Sox went in front in the 5th with 6 runs (all with 2 outs) against Luzardo. Refsnyder and Jarren Duran both walked with the bases loaded and then Romy Gonzalez broke out of an 0-for-20 slump with a Grand Slam that put the Sox up, 6-5. Trevor Story put the Red Sox up 7-6 with an RBI Double in the top of the 10th. Carlos Narvaez hit a 2-run Homer in the 11th to put the Sox up by 2 runs.

#'s of the DAY: It's the 4th Grand Slam this season for the Red Sox (Devers, 2. Abreu, 1. Gonzalez, 1) and first in the Big Leagues for Gonzalez.  It's also the 4th Home Run with 2 outs this season for Gonzalez. The Red Sox with their 22nd comeback win this season and coming back from 5 runs down matches the largest comeback win this season.  The Red Sox are (46-23) when hitting a Home Run this season. The Sox struck out 15 more times in the series finale and 43 times in 3 games vs. Phillies pitching.  The Red Sox had 5 (4 Doubles & 1 Home Run) extra-base hits in Wednesday night's Win/Loss and have 93 extra-base hits over the last 21 Games.

What's On Tap?: The Sox have a scheduled off day Thursday and open up a 3-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday night at Fenway. Brayan Bello, Garrett Crochet and Walker Buehler are the scheduled starters for the Red Sox in the Dodgers series.  The Red Sox began a stretch of playing 12 of their 1st 15 on the road out of the All-Star Break last Friday.
