Description
Supernatural Season 8, Episode 7, A Little Slice of Kevin recap 🔪 Crowley is collecting prophets, Linda Tran is shopping for a witch on Craigslist, and Dean keeps seeing Cas everywhere on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast.
People keep vanishing in freak storms, and every case smells like sulfur. Dean thinks he’s losing it, because Cas keeps showing up and disappearing, and his guilt about Purgatory is eating him alive. Meanwhile, Kevin (Osric Chau) and Linda (Lauren Tom) are done running and ready to fight. LA is calling in from Colorado again, so bear with the audio.
Episode Highlights:
- Finger painting up to the elbows, a mom with black eyes, and a mini-tornado at Randy Raccoon Preschool
- Dean sees Cas on the side of the highway, and then a bear holding a sign
- Crowley in a white apron, Samandriel (Tyler Johnston) in the torture throne, and “I lied. I do that.”
- Linda Tran hires a Craigslist witch named Delta Mendota for demon bomb ingredients
- Sam recites an exorcism during a fake phone call
- Sam’s best hair season continues, V-neck pajamas included
- A face at the window during a flash of lightning, and Dean finally opens up about survivor’s guilt
- “I’m dirty,” plus Cas has missed TV
- Purgatory flashbacks: the portal, Benny’s very memorable exit, and Dean’s awkward little step (shown twice)
- A potential prophet levitates and explodes all over Kevin (blood splooge #63), and the title starts to make sense
Written by Eugenie Ross-Leming and Brad Buckner and directed by Charlie Carner. Berly would like a word with whoever okayed the wide shot of Dean’s portal step. LA loved Linda Tran’s warrior-mom evolution: buckets of holy water over the door, holy water in a Super Soaker, and a demon in her trunk. Berly’s glad the Purgatory gaps are finally filling in and the season is picking up speed. She’s also happy to confirm that Crowley wants Kevin specifically, his little AP student. The gore: the first levitating blood splooge, bloody torture, and a brutal Leviathan beatdown on Cas.
In the lore segment, Berly revisits the prophet lore from The Monster at the End of This Book. A prophet is God’s spokesperson for a given time and place, and complicated messages often came as visions (Chuck’s headache-booze-dream routine, anyone?). Then there’s Balaam, who wasn’t even an Israelite, and whom God set straight by talking through his donkey. That’s not a metaphor. Berly also reads the Bible’s tests for spotting a false prophet, and she’s pretty sure she could pass every one of them.
“No, Mom, that’s another part of Craigslist.” – Kevin
