Season 8 Episode 30
Despite deep concerns surrounding President Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” many Black and poor white Americans are refusing to surrender to despair. While the legislation includes cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and Pell Grants—programs that disproportionately support low-income communities—some are choosing resolve over resignation. Faith leaders, community organizers, and advocates are rallying around the idea that hardship does not equal hopelessness. They’re urging people to stay informed, stay vocal, and stay united.
As one Iowa pastor put it, “If we can’t talk about it in church, where are they going to hear it?” That spirit of defiance is spreading. The bill may threaten lifelines, but it’s also awakening a renewed commitment to justice, solidarity, and self-determination.
